Safeguarding is a key priority at Chertsey Town Juniors and also that of Surrey FA. As a club we have a number of protocols in place to support us provide a fun and safe environment for your child. They range from our coaches being required to have the FA Level 1 coaching qualification and up to date safeguarding and first aid training, appropriate supervision levels in place with coaches and helpers DBS checked. Our supervision requirements our that there will always be two adults present at any match or training session. Our approach is underpinned by our safeguarding policy which can be accessed via the documents page of our website and whilst Safeguarding of Children is everyone’s responsibility, our Welfare Officer, Damion Cassin, supports parents and coaches and keeps everyone updated. Damion can be reached through our contact us page.
As part of the registration process, we do need to collect some key information for our coaches to help ensure your child remains safe at our club. Please let us know if there are any medical conditions such as asthma or allergies, any impairments such as learning or hearing difficulties that your child may have. Make sure coaches are aware who may or may not collect players from training sessions and matches and if you give permission or not for photography and provide us with any relevant information about culture and faith. Please check when registration opens from the 1st July that all the relevant information is correct.
Coaches, players and parents are all required by our club to sign up to our code of conduct which can be found in the Information section of our website in the document folder.
Want to know more about safeguarding in football? England FA have created a 25-30 minute training course Safeguarding Awareness for parents and carers.

Surrey FA have als provided some handy guides and support tools, which can be access via their website, about how children can get help if they are unhappy, worried or been in a situation where they have felt uncomfortable. There are also support guides for how parents/guardians can offer guidance to their children if they suspect a safeguarding concern.
If you do have any concerns of poor practice, please try to raise it positively and constructively. Most volunteers are part of football to help children have fun. However, it's OK to challenge something you think isn't right. You should also say something if the behaviour of another parent is worrying you. In the first instance please raise it with our club welfare office (Contact Us Page), if in the unlikely event you feel you are not being listened to you can contact the Surrey safeguarding team at safeguarding@surreyfa.com or for urgent matters, contact their Designated Safeguarding Officer at 01372 387 090. If you need to speak to someone if you are unsure who to contact the NSPCC (details below) may be able to help and importantly If the matter is urgent or a child is at risk, you should contact the police or Surrey social services.
